UKREP 2014, Festival plesnih perspektiv
UKREP / Taking Measures / 2014, Festival of dance perspectives
KAKO PLESATI V PRIHODNOST

HOW TO DANCE INTO THE FUTURE
Contemporary dance and the creativity of the young is something to stand up for. Art makes us see, hear, feel, think. It comes from this world, but at the same time it is its distinction and surplus. Contemporary dance provides space to explore, experiment, learn, take chance, observe, engage in a dialogue communicate with others. Through contemporary dance, we can construct, transform and resist conventions and dictates. We are discovering our capabilities beyond the borders. How to open up perspectives for the young, for the coming generations in this day and age – this is something that we are continually working on. This year’s Ukrep/Taking Measures – Festival of Dance Perspectives will showcase artists with their ideas, their refl ections, their stories, their skills, and also with a question: “How to live, to dance into the future?” They invite viewers into their actions and reactions, to spend some time with them in a creative way. Throughout the three days of Ukrep, we will be able to enjoy dancing, creativity, storytelling, socializing... on both intimate and social level. We will observe questioning and searching for answers; in particular: what is the creativity of the young characterized by these days.

TAKING MEASURES
Every word seems to be redundant when talking about what this year’s Ukrep should be about. But it’s not at all about not wanting to talk about it, discuss it or plan it – on the contrary, all this is happening in abundance, constantly, incessantly in a way. It’s springing up and bubbling, but I would not call it young, I would call it willing. To take measures, to create one’s own piece, one’s own project, one’s own performance, to form a platform where all this can gain visibility and come to life in a new context. For three days, this year’s Ukrep will become a common place for presenting various dance initiatives, as an intersection of the young dancers’ own work and the skills they acquired in workshops with choreographs Gregor Luštek and Eduardo Torroja. The educational process was conducted on the principle of active participation. For three days, Dance Theatre Ljubljana will be occupied by young Slovenian dancers and choreographers, working or studying home and abroad, in Salzburg, Linz, Amsterdam. Our task for 2014 is to open up space and bring together the initiatives, to weave new bonds that will continue to take measures.

Glasba: 2cellos: Hurt
Anamaria Klajnšček: Nosim težo svojega telesa
Moja teža, moja gravitacija. Zavedna ali nezavedna? Kdaj? Zakaj? Kako?
Popolna ali popolnoma odvzeta. Osredotočena. Videnje telesa, ki se trga iz težnosti.
Glasba: Steve Reich
SUNDAY, June 15, 6 p.m.: SVŠGL: AN EVENING OF ORIGINAL SOLO DANCE
Stories of Bodies: a selection of original solo pieces by fourth-year students of SVŠGL
Produced by: SVŠGL, Emanat
Financial support: Ministry of Culture, Municipality of Ljubljana
An Evening of original solo pieces by fourth-year students of contemporary dance at the Art Gymnasium Ljubljana is an event organized by Emanat Institute and SVŠGL - Pre-School Education and Grammar School Ljubljana since 2003. It consists of short solo dance choreographies by graduates ofthe dance department, exploring independently the chosen theme and developing their own choreographic approaches. This year’s theme is linked to a theoretical work Poetics of Contemporary Dance by Laurence Louppe, presenting the stories of the dancers’ bodies, created under the mentorship of Petra Pikalo.
Alja Lackovič: Individuum
»Dance, dance, or we are lost.« It is this quote by Pina Bausch that I can relate to the most, as dancing is both something that I love immensely and something that hurts and damages me the most.
Petra Peček: Dressage of freedom
Once more! Several times more! It is not yet free! In the four years, I have received a lot of information about the body and dance, many times contradictory.
Music: Petra Peček mix, EKKO – Rehearsal
Julija Šuštar: Time dimension of a movement
Movement of the body, led across the space by time, slowed down and delayed until the moment when it stops completely and assumes a particular position. In a still position, time continues to run.
Maja Koražija: Deceptive body
How do emotions affect my movement? How does movement affect my emotions? Can I transfer an emotion to a movement and then provoke that same sentiment with a movement? How does a spectatorreact to this?
Music: 2CELLOS: Hurt
Anamaria Klajnšček: I carry the weight of my body
My weight, my gravity. Conscious or unconscious? When? Why? How? Complete or completely withdrawn. Focused. Vision of a body, breakingfrom gravity.
Music: Steve Reich
Julija Pečnikar: It still feels good
Hedonism – a school of thought according to which pleasure is the goal of life.
Music: Gašper Divjak;Françoise Hardy: Le temps de l'amour
Barbara Vuzem, Jerca Rožnik Novak, Veronika Cimborova: INDIFFILARITY
Koreografija: Barbara Vuzem in plesalki
Plešeta: Jerca Rožnik Novak in Veronika Cimborova
Glasba: Robert HenkeLayer 006
Veronika Cimborova (1993, Banska Bistrica, Slovaška) letos končuje drugi letnik programa IDA (Institute for Dance Arts) v Linzu.
Alja Ferjan in Jan Rozman: GILJOTINA ODLOČITVE
Zasnova in izvedba: Alja Ferjan, Jan Rozman
Glasba: Dean Martin – That’s Amore
Ta miniatura je želja po ljubezni. Čeprav seje sovraštvo. Ta miniatura je želja po drugi osebi. Čeprav hoče biti sama. Ta miniatura je idealna kombinacija! Čeprav je obsojena na propad. Ta miniatura je duet. Čeprav je dva sola. Ta miniatura je vedno nekaj drugega! Ta miniatura se pleše neprestano! Ta miniatura hoče živeti. Želi si! Želi!
Alja Ferjan je končala SVŠGL, umetniška gimnazija, smer sodobni ples. V letu 2010/11 je opravila letnik na akademiji School for New Dance Development v Amsterdamu. Nato se je posvetila avtorskemu delu.

This miniature is a wish for love. Although it is spreading hate. This miniature is a desire for another person. Although it wants to be alone. This miniature is an ideal combination! Although it is destined to fail. This miniature is a duet. Although it is two solos. This miniature is always something different. This miniature is danced constantly. This miniature wants to live. Each one of us has desires that we long for, devoutly and secretly as a child, before we go to sleep. Wouldn’t it be easier to pursue this small mischievous caprice? Wouldn’t we realize our desires more quickly in this way?

Gregor Luštek: DŽIBRIŠ
Nastopajo: Enya Belak, Maša Hawlina, Alex Kodek, Tini Rozman, Urša Rupnik, April Veselko, Eni Vesović
Produkcja: Plesni Teater Ljubljana
SUNDAY, June 15, 8 p.m.
Gregor Luštek: GIBBERISH
Performing: Enya Belak, Maša Hawlina, Alex Kodek, Tini Rozman, Urša Rupnik, April Veselko, Eni Vesović
Produced by: PTL – Dance Theatre Ljubljana
Gibberish is a recurring fictional language, used as an acting technique or as a tool for observing one’s own body in different emotional situations and conditions, enabling constant live presence of physical intention of the dancers on stage. In this process, an intuitive moment of the dancer is working, where instead of the body emerges the personality which via words can no longermake contact with the environment but needs a new, fictional language, based on intense physical level. It is not so much about the process of choreographing as a search for situational bits, coexisting in space and time which through the fictional language (gibberish) enable to hear a movement, to listen to the body, to see a moment. When choreography begins to sound, the viewer no longer watches it, he begins to listen.
Gregor Luštek (1973, Novo mesto) studied at the Faculty of Sport. His dance skills are a collection of different dance techniques: ballet, Cunningham, Horton, jazz-ballet, Release, Lemon, Partnering, Contact Improvisation. His basic principle of expression and recognition is a sleek and at the same time athletic movement. He is a well-established contemporary dance artist, who has collaborated with the key initiators and founders of contemporary dance in Slovenia. Together with dancer and choreographer Rosana Hribar they act as choreographic duo. They also create dance duets that have won several awards, both in Slovenia and abroad. Recently, he has collaborated as choreographer and assistant director a lot with director Jernej Lorenci.
PONEDELJEK, 16. 6. ob 15.00
HERmIna
Prav to razdvojenost bo pokazala s svojim subjektivnom pristopom Anja Rupnik s plesom kot avtonomno umetnostjo, Lara Bubić skozi odnos do prostora in Kasija Vrbanac z uporabo naracije in igre. V plesu prihaja do redukcije vseh estetskih in reprezentacijskih elementov, s tem do čistega giba. Glavna točka interesa je interakcija telesa s prostorom, v katerem deluje. Selekcija izbranih ambientov se prikazuje znotraj predstave z video projekcijo- prostorski hibrid, preoblikovan s telesom. Vse tri avtorice so študentke na Akademiji za ples v Ljubljani, smeri sodobni in džez ples.
Mentorji: Brina Vogelnik, Rok Vevar; Rosana Horvat, Urša Rupnik,
Po predstavi bo potekal voden pogovor z avtoricami, moderatorjem Rokom Vevarjem in izbranimi gosti.
MONDAY, June 16, 3 p.m.
HERmIna
The performance HERmIna combines three different approaches to a theme based on the novel Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse. It deals with the existential issue of a person who feels duality of a wolf and human inside himself. It is this duality that will be shown by Anja Rupnik with her subjective approach to dance as an autonomous art form, Lara Bubić through relationship to space, and Kasija Vrbanac with the use of narrative and play. In dance, all aesthetic and representation elements are lead to reduction, enabling a pure movement to occur. The main point of interest is the interaction of the body with the space in which it operates. Within the performance, a selection of ambiences is shown with video projection – a space hybrid, transformed by the body.
All three authors study at the Dance Academy in Ljubljana (contemporary and jazz dance departments). Mentors: Brina Vogelnik, Rok Vevar, Rosana Horvat, Urša Rupnik
The performance will be followed by a guided conversation with the dancers and selected guests (moderator: Rok Vevar).

Kaja Vajdetič: TEŽA PESKA
Avtorski ples: Kaja Vajdetič
Glasba: OlafurArnalds
No, trenutno, ko to pišem, si želim zmagati.

Hladna, oddaljena in nedostopna. Ledena kraljica.

Geste v gibu, gib v gestah. Kako telo reagira ob sprožitvi telesnih gest. Kako vpliva zunanji glas na reakcije in akcije. Kdaj postaneta telo in zvok eno in obratno.

Goran Kusić: WASTED
Avtorski solo ples
Glasba: Nina Simone: Black is the color of my true love's hair
Wasted je manifest in kritika položaja samega v poziciji ustvarjalca. Bipolarna narava dela izvira iz analize trivialnih dejavnikov potovanja skozi različne družbene in profesionalne dogodke, ki obenem navdušujejo in povzročajo ravnodušnost.
Goran Kusić je plesno pot začel 2003 v Plesnem Forumu Celje pod mentorstvom Goge Stefanović Erjavec, šolanje nadaljeval na SVŠGL, um. gimnazija, smer sodobni ples. Katarina Barbara Kavčič: EVERY NOW AND THEN I GET LITTLE BIT LONELY
Koncept in izvedba: Katarina Barbara Kavčič
Glasba: Bonnie Tyler; Total Eclipse of the Heart

Kaja Vajdetič: THE WEIGHT OF SAND
Original performance: Kaja Vajdetič

I don’t feel the sand, disappearing beneath my feet, nor the rocking of the boat that I’m sitting in. I’m floating. But why is there sand on my boat? It’s funny that memories carry so much weight.

April Veselko: THROUGH THE ICE
Author, performance and music: April Veselko
songs again. A wish. only this is too personal. nobody knows about them. Vulnerability. Relief – can you cry? help, ask for it! You never cry. free, proud, owing nothing to no one. Do not trust. a step back, you remain quiet as is expected behind the glass. Only on surface. Cold, distant and inaccessible. The Ice Queen.

Goran Kusić: WASTED
Original solo dance
Music: Nina Simone: Black Is The Color Of My True Love’s Hair
Wasted is a manifest and a critique of the situation itself in the position of a creator. Bipolar nature of the work arises from the analysis of the trivial factors of a journey through different social and professional events, which inspire and cause indifference at the same time.
Goran Kusić’s dance career began in 2003 at Celje Dance Forum under the mentorship of Goga Stefanović Erjavec, continued at SVŠGL, Arts Gymnasium, Contemporary dance department. Since 2013, he is studying at the Amsterdam University of Arts (Modern Theatre Dance department) where he is also involved in projects outside the academy.
Katarina Barbara Kavčič: EVERY NOW AND THEN I GET A LITTLE BIT LONELY
Concept and performance: Katarina Barbara Kavčič
Music: Bonnie Tyler: Total Eclipse Of The Heart
The solo performance, which could also be a duet, is an expression of my current state (or non-state), my searching and researching. The dilemma whether to face it or not, to open or to close, to observe or be observed, leads me towards a search for a happy place, where you don’t need to be alone, even when there is no one around, and where purple flies dominate instead of elephants.
Katarina Barbara Kavčič (Maribor) is finishing her studies at SEAD where she participated in various productions and projects. So far, she has produced three original performances. She also works as a mentor and pedagogue.

Svetloba in zvok: Jost von Harleßem
Mentorja: prof. dr. Bojana Kunst in Frank Max Müller

Trenutno zaključuje podiplomski študij koreografije in performansa v Frankfurtu. Njen magistrski projekt Imagination of Expectations je sestavljen iz instalacije Net in Work in performansa String Theory.

Ajda Tomazin: STRING THEORY
Concept and choreography: Ajda Tomazin

Financial support: Crespo Foundation, QSL
Production: Frankfurt Lab, Mousonturm, Atw(Institute for Applied Theatre Studies) under a MA Choreography and Performance (2011, 2013–2014)
Realization at UKREP: PTL in collaboration with KD Qulenium
The performance highlights the importance of relations that are a part of our lives, placing them on an abstract level of visible and invisible networks of integration. The network has a tendency to show off. It can hurt you, it can be boring, and sometimes it is simply shy. Suddenly it changes its mind and speaks out. But not always in an understandable way, so you have to help it, even if it says that it is not worth listening to, like a whisper in the ear: “You look like idiots.”
Ajda Tomazin (1986, Ljubljana) after graduating in contemporary dance at SVŠGL continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. She is currently finishing postgraduate study of choreography and performance in Frankfurt. Her MA project, Imagination of Expectations, is composed of the installation Net in Work and performance String Theory.

Produced by: PTL – Dance Theatre Ljubljana
Free composition is based on fragments of the energetic and physical vocabulary of the first two performances of the Ultima Vez group and Wim Vandekeybus. It is about movement as a theatrical act, where instinct takes over and where trust is everything in this combative landscape that balances on the razor edge of attraction and repulsion. The intensity of the moments when you have no choice, when other things decide for you; like falling in love, or a moment before the accident that has to happen.
Eduardo Torroja (Madrid, Spain) began working with Wim Vandekeybus in 1986 as an assistant choreographer, dance trainer and dancer in first performances of the Ultima Vez group – What the Body Does Not Remember (1987), Les Porteuses de Mauvaises Nouvelles (1989) and The Weight of a Hand (1990) – and in the movie Roseland (1991). In the 1990s, he collaborated with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s group Rosas, with Need Company of Jan Lauwers and Grace Ellen Barkey. He also took on dance teaching and workshops as part of the Ultima Vez repertoire in Leuven, Volgograd, Brussels, Madrid, Amsterdam, Seville, Rotterdam and Lisbon. In 2000, he returned to Madrid where he works as a performer or assistant director in film and theatre, but has been returning to Brussels for various projects, e.g. as an artistic assistant in performances Ultima Vez Blush (2002) and Sonic Boom (2003).
