DANCE ARTISTS FOR A CREATIVE EUROPE PROJECT

The Rail2Dance partners are Städtische Theater Chemnitz - Ballet in Germany, Dance Theatre MD in Tampere, Finland, Plesni Teater Ljubljana in Slovenia, and Norrlandsoperan in Sweden invite artists who work and live in the respective cities to participate in the two Rail2Dance Residencies. Each city will select one or two artists from their city or region to be part of this twoyear project.
1. Residency Ljubljana (SV) - Sep. 2022
We invite 5 artists from the participating partners to take part at a 10-day kick-off residency hosted in Ljubljana by Plesni Teater Ljubljana. Mentored by the artistic director of Company Chameleon (Manchester/GB), Anthony Missen, the team will develop new skills and knowledge in the development of audience engagement and interaction in public spaces.
2. Local Action Research - Oct./ Nov. 2022 & Mar./Apr. 2023
The residency will be followed by a 4-month research-action phase in the artists’ national contexts during which the 5 artists will test the developed skills and protocols in close collaboration with the mentor through online meetings. Can be combined with other ongoing projects.
3. Touring - Performing & Sharing - May/ June 2023
The core phase of the project will be a 40-day tour during which the selected dance artists will embark on a journey across Europe from Finland to Slovenia, on the following journey: Tampere -> Vaasa -> Umeå -> Malmö -> Chemnitz -> Nuremberg- > Maribor and finally to Ljubljana. The journey starts with a short residency. The partner's cities will be the main hubs of activities but workshops and performances will also be developed on the journey in stopover cities: Vaasa in Finland, Malmö in Sweden, Nuremberg in Germany, and Maribor in Slovenia. This journey will solely be using railway except on the section between Finland and Sweden where a ferry trip will be used. During this mobility phase, the artists will interact with passengers at places for mobility and present participative dance performances in the train stations and in the transport to engage new audiences, and run workshops for local dance professionals to share
methodologies as well as with local citizens.
4. Symposium Chemnitz - Sept 2023
